It is located on the eastern part of Beit Sahour. This is the site where the angle of the Lord appeared before the shepherds bringing them the good tidings of the birth of Jesus , joined with a multitude of heavenly hosts , who sang “ Glory to God in the Highest and on Earth ,peace among men “
Greek
Orthodox Shepherd Field
This
church is now owned by the Greek Orthodox denomination in Beit Sahour and took
the name “ The Church of Shepherds’ Filed.”.
The Latin Shepherd Church is located 600 meters on the north of the Orthodox Shepherds Church. The Franciscan Fathers bought the land of the Latin Shepherds Church in the middle of the 19th century. This place represents the location where the angles appeared for the shepherds and gave the good news that Jesus was born.
As
for the present church, it was built in 1954 over a big rock which is said to be
the ground of an ancient ruined church. The church was built through funds from
Canada and took the shape of a tent and the name of Angles and Shepherds. The
Church was the last piece of art of he Italian architect Antonio Burlosto.
After
the tourist visits both the Latin and Greek Orthodox Shepherds’ Fields, he
walks eastward to find a meadow on his left full of pine trees. In the middle of
the meadow lies a building that hosts the Y.M.C.A. Center.
On
the eastern part of the building lies a grotto with a lot of pottery remains.
This grotto reminds the Protestant denomination of the shepherds who gave the
word about the birth of Jesus Christ.
